Police say nine shots were fired in San Bernardino, one killed outside a party

Police say nine people were shot dead near a party in San Bernardino late Friday night, one of them dead.

The officers were sent to the scene in Highland just before midnight to meet a large crowd, Sgt. The representative of the San Bernardino Police Department, Echino Thomas, wrote in the letter:

Thomas said that outside a business on 3,600 East Highland Avenue, officers found a man who had shot and died at the scene. The identity of the victim is not reported.

Family members identified him as a 20-year-old man who attended a party at a lounge in the Highland Square Mall. reports KTLA-TV.

Authorities later learned of the eight shooting victims, many of whom were taken to local hospitals, Thomas said. They were being treated for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, he said.

Witness: said KTLA that shots were fired at the Mobil gas station across from the shopping center. The video from the scene shows that the gas station and the shopping center were torn off with the tape of the crime scene.

“We just heard gunshots, a lot of children were running,” said an eyewitness who declined to be identified, KTLA reported. “Most of the children were under 18 years old.”

As of Saturday morning, there was no information about the suspect, no arrests.

Preliminary information showed that the victims were not intentional, that the shootings could have been caused by a conflict in a crowded party room, Thomas said.
