Monkeypox is spreading around the world, and now the rare virus has found its way inside our borders.
The first case of chickenpox in the United States this year was found on Tuesday, when a Massachusetts man tested positive for the virus, according to health officials.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the man recently traveled to Canada, և the CDC confirmed the positive result of his test.
The MDPH says the man was hospitalized in good condition, does not pose a threat to the public, or that they say they are working to track down contact with the CDC.
Monkeypox is extremely rare in the United States, this is only the third reported case since 2003, but it is on the rise around the world.
The disease is caused by the chickenpox virus, which is part of the same family of viruses as chickenpox. It is very rare outside of Africa, և the CDC says that the virus is not naturally found in the United States.
Monkey pox is transmitted from animals to humans when an infected animal, usually a primate or rodent, bites or scratches a human … or after a wild game or wildlife hunt.
When a person becomes infected, the disease is spread through various forms, including body fluids and long-term face-to-face contact with airborne droplets.
Symptoms of chickenpox include fever, headache, chills, rash, muscle aches, and chickenpox-like disorders. It can be deadly, especially for young children.
This is one thing for people to worry about. 🤷🏽♂️:
